With the Easter and May Bank Holidays fast approaching we thought it timely to remind you that furloughed employees are entitled to full pay for holidays and that includes any Bank Holidays (e.g. the employee is entitled to 5.6 weeks holiday including Bank/Public Holidays) as the Bank/Public Holidays are part of their statutory/contractual holiday allowance.
If employees would not necessarily take the Bank Holiday off (e.g. in hospitality) and would take equivalent holiday at another time, then you don’t need to pay 100% for the Bank Holidays, they would receive the furlough rate for those days; the employee would receive 100% when they actually take the holiday.
However, if the employee would normally be off on the Bank Holiday (i.e. it is taken as a holiday even if there is no requirement for them to book it as such) then it should be paid at 100%.
